The Revolution Evolution

Welcome to Land's End!
We are at the almost southern point in the United States.  We jokingly say we are in a third world country because things here are so different than the rest of the United States.  Instead of planting in March, April or May, farmers here plant the end of September through November/December.  Grass is not nutritious to grazing animals and parasites----they love it here!
I suppose I should introduce us---WE ARE:
Fear Gallunach-The soap man--brilliant,smart, dry funny, fond of epic science fiction sagas, loves BBC sit-coms, Indian cooking, Julia Child, research, gardening
Bhean Lacha- The duck lady-also brilliant, smart, fond of mysteries, lectures, Indian cooking (eating it), research, working dogs (Border Collies), Indian Runner ducks
Ahkku Gaica- The goat grandmother-not so brilliant, fond of reading, cooking, gardening, Middle Eastern cooking, Desi cooking, Kheer, canning, research, small ruminants, small ruminent health

So that's us. We are one couple and a friend who have a small hobby farm that is home to 3 horses, 43 ducks, 25 chickens, 1 cat, 5 dogs and 12 goats.

It started with the sheep. Once upon a time this farm was home to a few sheep and a few ducks. They all had a job: help the Border Collies with herding. But the Border Collies got older or younger and the sheep just got bigger and stupider.  Then someone gave us a goat. Now goats being what goats are, know what side of the bread the butter goes on. Needless to say, the sheep have all left- some for "greener" pastures and some to other farms.  And we have more goats!
The horses-mares-ranging in age from 17 to 25, parts are Arabian, parts are not.
Ducks-Indian Runners, Khaki Campbell, Swedish Blues, Buff, Crested Pekins, and one lone Muscovy. The Muscovy and one of the Khakis sat on eggs and hatched eleven. There are 9 girls and 2 boys which is a pretty good ratio.
Chickens-French Marans Golden Cuckoo, French Marans Black Copper, French Marans Black Tailed Buff, French Marans Silver Birchen, Buff Orphington, White Brahman, Gold Laced Wyandotte, Buff Cochin, Americauna Blue Wheaten and Mutley Americauna.
Cat--don't, if you know what is good for you call, her an alley cat!  She is the BARN PROTECTOR. She guards against barn swallows, dragonflies, lizards (including basilisk lizards), and rats and mice.
Dogs-we have Border Collies, an Aussie and a German Shepherd
Goats-We have 3 breeds-Nubians, LaManchas and Saanens. 

Once we had the goats, we had to figure out what to do with them.
Most of the goats we started with were not very healthy. Our blog is about our evolution/revolution into making our herd one of healthy goats
